Rupert Maas is something of a legend in the art world. Not just for being the tallest man in Mayfair and the face of Ballantine’s whiskey in Asia (you know you’ve made it big when you land a gig like that) but most notably for being the star of the most successful art programme the BBC ever commissioned. No not Lovejoy, we’re talking about The Antiques Road Show of course. For the last 16 years Rupert's been hurtling around the country, from Bolton to Barnstaple, informing lucky members of the general public that the dusty old canvas lurking under their bed is in fact a priceless Victorian masterpiece. His career’s been full of adventures and anecdotes will bring tears of laughter to your cheeks. Like the time he came a cropper for saying women from Shropshire had fat ankles. He was in fact referring to a painting of a Victorian women reclining in a hammock but a gaggle of enraged lasses from the West Midlands went for his jugular nonetheless. He now knows how Tony Blair felt in front of that rabid pack of Women’s Institute members. Rupert will be sharing his passion for Victorian Art and talking to us about some outstanding examples which he happens to have at his gallery. Unmissable.
This event is for Members Only (15 places)
