Right, kimonos and slippers at the ready, it’s time to make yourselves at home. In Japan. We’re taking you behind the scenes at The Geffrye Museum to meet Alex Goddard, curator of their exhibition At Home in Japan, for a private poke around. Alex will be talking you through all aspects of traditional Japanese domestic life from decoration, display, furniture, art and the tatami mat to eating, sleeping, hygiene, worship and the ritual of ‘gifting’. Not to mention their penchant for Sake Bombs and Tamagotchi. Plus, she’ll be showing you a few of her favourite parts of the permanent display which focuses on the history of the urban domestic interior in England and includes a treasure trove of paintings. This part of your journey will take you from 1600 right up to a 21st century converted warehouse any Shoreditch type would be proud of. Outstanding.
