‘What, a Love Art London gig on a Saturday?’ we hear you cry. Yup, that’s right, thought it was about time we threw the odd arty shindig on the weekend. And what a cracker it is. So, Hendon, a distinctly average suburb of north-west London right? In some ways yes but not only is Hendon listed in the Domesday Book (‘Hendun’ means ‘at the highest hill’) archaeologists have discovered a plethora of Roman settlements there too. We digress. Hendon’s biggest claim to fame is without doubt the RAF Museum & Aerodrome which has mounted a cracking exhibition of painting and sculpture by Eric Kennington, a remarkable war artist who’s largely been overlooked by the history books. Until now that is. And it’s all thanks to the efforts of the amazing Dr Jonathan Black from Kingston University who knows more about Kennington’s life and work than just about anyone. Jonathan will be talking to us about some of the artist’s masterpieces and if we ask him nicely he’ll sign copies of his book should you choose to treat yourself. Bonza.
