Studio

Holy hole in a doughnut Batman, can this be true? Sure is. Norman Ackroyd RA is inviting Love Art Londoners for an extremely rare peek at his incredible studio. Widely regarded as Britain’s greatest living printmaker, Norman Ackroyd is nothing short of a national treasure and we can’t wait to meet him. His studio, a former leather warehouse, has been lovingly converted into a four storey space in which he not only works but lives. He said in a recent television interview “the beauty of living above the shop is that if I wake up at four in the morning, I can start work straight away. I like the studio being very private: the windows are blocked up so no one can see me in here.”

Norman and his two studio assistants will actually be making some prints as we watch, using the enormous ‘mangle-style’ printing press commissioned in 1900 by the artist Sir Frank Brangwyn. He’ll be talking to us about the art of printmaking, why traditional tools are still the best and why he insists on grinding his own inks. And if we ask really nicely he might show us his medal from the Queen for services to Engraving and Printing. Do not miss this.

This event is for Members Only (15 places)
