Studio

Blistering barnacles Batman, are we dreaming? Nope. Sir Anthony Caro has indeed invited Love Art London for an incredibly rare glimpse at his studio. Widely regarded as one of the greatest living sculptors, Caro occupies something close to superhero status and we can’t wait to meet him. It seems writing to Jim’ll Fix It really works.

Having cut his teeth as Henry Moore’s assistant in his early career, Caro tore up the rule book after meeting Clement Greenberg and David Smith and set about creating a new sculptural language. He began to make non-figurative, abstract, brightly coloured works constructed from industrial metals and placed them directly on the floor without a plinth. The year was 1959. Jaw-dropping stuff. Still going strong in his ninth decade, Caro is a powerhouse whose career charts the course of Modernism in a nutshell. And apparently he makes a mean cuppa too.

This event is for Members Only (20 Places)
