We know what you’re thinking, ‘where the hell’s Wapping?’ Well, it’s actually only a stone’s throw from Whitechapel and it’s home to an ever growing artistic community, thanks in part to its characteristic warehouse spaces and the newly opened Wapping Project which has put it firmly on the map. And that's not to mention The Prospect of Whitby, London's oldest pub, is just round the corner. Just a couple of reasons why those street savvy guys at Lazarides Gallery chose to relocate their Printmaking operation here when they out grew their makeshift basement studio in Soho. Sarah Fountain, whose job title is genuinely Master Printmaker has kindly agreed to let Love Art London watch her work. At this stage it’s impossible to predict what she’ll be working on but the likelihood is it’ll be something exciting by Antony Micallef, Blu, 3D (yup, the guy from Massive Attack) or any other of the artists in the Lazarides family. So when you purchase a print from Laz Inc. some anonymous chump doesn’t just pull out a digitally made re-print from the stockroom and charge you a fortune for it, Sarah and her team make each one by hand to order. And why do the artists trust her to help make their work? Well, because she’s a master printmaker. Outstanding.
